Day 2 of Student Teaching

Thursday there wasn’t any school because of the cold so my second day was Friday. It was a more difficult day than my first day. The students were just coming off an unexpected day off and it was Friday, so they were a bit more rowdy than the other classes earlier in the week. I did the same activities. The fifth grade class was great and came up with some really interesting and unique exquisite corpses. The younger classes were pretty noisy so I had to give them strikes but I did not have to take away their All Stars.

The final class of the day was a third grade class. They were so naughty I had to give them three strikes and take away their All Star. Even after that, they were still misbehaving. There were only about four students that were working diligently and were not roaming around the room and goofing off. I made sure to praise them in front of the class.

I wasn’t sure what to do beyond taking away the All Star so my cooperating teacher told me that if they still do not get it together after that she will have the practice classroom procedures like lining up quietly or cleaning up. She advised me to try giving them a chance to line up quietly by the door otherwise they will have to practice next time they are in the art room. Unfortunately, they were still just as bad in line so they will be practicing that on Wednesday when they are in the art room again. It was a sour note to end my Friday on.
